Catechist Magazine has loads of great practical ideas for the classroom!!!
Best help of all: Ask a seasoned catechist to allow you to go into their classroom to observe a couple of classes.
Having a problem with one or more students in your class? Write down their names and pray for them every day. Make this your prayer "hit list." Two things can happen; 1) their behavior often changes and they become more open to the Gospel, and 2) when you pray for someone regularly is is easier to be patient with them and really love them, even when they are trying to drive you nuts.
One does not simply choose to be a catechist, rather one is called and responds to this holy and noble task. And while we are called in many different ways, we are all called to the same sacred task: to pass on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the pure teachings of the Holy Catholic Church.
